I know that many people (as well as me) buy/sell on Ebay and there is a lot of misinformation regarding what is original and what is a remake.
Description of the Original 1964 The Wilson 8802 Putter - The head is almost identical to the 1962/63 Designed by Arnold Palmer. The height of the putter's face is the size of a nickel when measured at the sweet spot. The later remakes are larger more like the size of a quarter. The shaft is a flared tip over the hosel design. There are 5 steps to the headspeed shaft. The first step on the shaft is 6 inches above the top of the hosel and the steps are 3.25 inches apart. The shaft label is EITHER green/red OR silver/with black edges. The grips are either wide paddle (fatter in the middle) or skinnier black leather with silver thread. The endcap is the musical notes/double flags (red & blue).
The Wilson Designed By Arnold Plamer is almost identical to the 1964 The Wilson 8802 with the exception of the headspeed shaft which only had 4 steps with each 3.25 inches apart and the first step at 8.5 inches above the hosel.
All 8802 are fine putter but some are much more valuable than others (don't be fooled).
If you have a question regarding original Wilson or MacGregor Putters I'd be happy to try to help distinguish one from another.
The Original Bullseye Putter was made by John Reuter Jr in the 1940s. The stamp on the sole of the original Bullseye Putters includes John Reuter Jr, Pat Pend, and the bullseye symbol (NO Acushnet). |
